Evidence is required of 3 different journeys, of about 3 hours (10km) each one of which must be on open water. hold 2 star award, |

Part A- Personal Paddling Skills
Lifting, carrying and launching, forward paddling, reverse paddling, turning on the move, moving sideways both on the move and static. Support strokes, polling, sailing & Securing |
Part B- Rescue Skills
Capsize, swim and self rescue, deep water rescue & towing |

Part C- Safety, Leadership & Group Skills
Personal risk management, Awareness of others, paddle open water in force 2-3. |
Part D- Theory
Questions on equipment, safety,weather, assess, planning, environment, hypothermia, planning, navigation & Etiquette. |

About the day! |

Times 9.15am to 4.30pm
Arrive at our center where you will be introduced to your qualified and professional instructor for the day and the equipment you will be using during the day.
Once kited up your instructor will talk you through the days events, covering the type of craft, paddles, and general equipment. |

Once on the water we will cover the BCU syllabus
Lifting/Carrying of craft:-looking at safe moving and handling techniques.
Forward Paddling:- Understand key point of good forward paddling, Trim, Acceleration, Cruising, Knifed Strokes.
Reverse Paddling:- Key points of reverse paddling, Trim, stopping, acceleration, control over a figure 8 Course.
Turning:- perform turns whilst on the move, both tight and open,
Moving Sideways:- Good techniques to move the craft sideways whilst ont he move and static.
Support Strokes:-: Low & high brace recovers, Sculling support, and body positions.
Ferry Gliding:- Explore the effects of angles, speed and edge.
Poling:- Look at balance, control and trim whilst standing in the canoe.
Sailing:- Explore means of improvising a sailing.
Securing:- Ways to secure boats to trailers and roof bars using ropes & straps.
Rescue Skills:- Capsize Swim and self rescue, deep water Rescue, Towing.
Safety, leadership & Group Skills:- Personal risk management & awareness of others.
Theory:- Covering all aspects of canoe safety, weather, equipment Hypothermia, first aid, assess, environment, planning, group awareness, navigation and Etiquette. |
